According to the latest rumors, Ubisoft has still not finished trying its luck in the battle royale genre. They are currently working on a new IP called Pathfinder, but we will have to be patient since the project is in the very early stages of development at Ubisoft Montreal.

The news comes to us from Tom Henderson via Exputer, as he reveals that he personally saw images and videos of the game in action. According to him, this new IP would look a bit like Ubisoft’s latest battle royale, Hyper Scape, but more “cartoony in nature”.

Gameplay Information

Pathfinder would be a PvPvE battle royale (player vs player vs environment) which means that players will have to fight other players, but also AIs. The game would put players in competition with others besides AI generated enemies as they have to travel to the center of the map to face a final boss. To get to this boss, players will need to walk through two walls through doors. The doors will be barred or not randomly with each new game.

It is also reported that the game will work with heroes, which means that players will be able to choose which character they want to fight. Each hero will then have his own skills that will be unique to him. Additionally, the game is expected to include a Destiny-style social space where players can shop, practice at the shooting range, and interact with each other.

Pathfinder should be developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the same studio responsible for Hyper Scape which should close on April 28. According to the announcement made by Ubisoft to announce this closure, the team would have learned a lot from this failed battle royale project. Now let’s hope that Pathfinder can prove it, when and if it comes out.
