Despite outgaining the Aztecs 160-91 in total yards by halftime, the Bruin offense lacked rhythm. The ground game stalled early, managing just 88 yards through the first two quarters. Yet, the defense kept San Diego State entirely bottled up, ensuring the scoreboard remained deadlocked at 0-0 as both teams headed to the locker rooms.

Knight wasn’t finished. After San Diego State’s Cooper DiLeva kicked a 46-yard field goal to trim the deficit, the Bruin offense found its stride. Knight hammered home his second score of the night from seven yards out, building a 14-3 lead with 7:17 left in the fourth quarter. Knight ultimately finished with a stellar performance, highlighted by a 36-yard touchdown dash later in the contest.
The Fourth-Quarter Blue Wave
UCLA has quietly turned the final frame into its personal playground. According to USA Today reporting, the Bruins have outscored their opponents 42-10 in the fourth quarter across the young season.
That trend continued in Pasadena when linebacker Jalen Woods soared to intercept a Jayden Denegal screen pass, nearly taking down the Aztec receiver in the process. Taking over deep in enemy territory, running back Jaivian Thomas punched in a one-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 21-3. San Diego State finally manufactured a touchdown via a 19-yard trick-play pass from Denegal to Jackson Ford against a flurry of late Bruin penalties, but the surge arrived far too late. Draiden Trudeau took over at quarterback for the Aztecs in the game’s waning moments, only to turn the ball over on downs as the Bruins comfortably slipped into victory formation.
Looking Ahead to Big Ten Play
At 2-0, the Bruins walk away with a definitive 28-10 win, though questions regarding offensive consistency in the opening halves will linger as the schedule hardens. The defense earned high marks, stifling San Diego State’s attack for nearly 60 minutes and proving that the “Bruin Bullies” moniker carries genuine weight upfront.

Chesney’s squad will now turn its full attention toward the conference slate. UCLA begins Big Ten Conference action next week against Purdue, where a slower start won’t be nearly as forgiving.
