The government spokesperson, Camila Vallejo, said this Wednesday that now it is the turn of the Senate to respect the autonomy of La Moneda and the decision of President Gabriel Boric to wait for the bilateral letters to promulgate the TPP11. From the benches of Chile Vamos in the Senate they announced that if this is the path of the Executive, it could hit the legislative agenda and even impact the constitutional dialogues.
After the approval in the Senate of the TPP11Given the Government’s silence on the steps to follow, in the political world there is annoyance with La Moneda due to the lack of definition of deadlines.
It is in the opposition where this causes the most hives, which is why from the bench of UDI senators they launched a bomb that could strain relations between Congress and the Executive.
In particular it was Ivan Moreirasenator and head of the union caucus, who openly pointed out that the great agreements that the Government needs could not have the support of the right if the TPP11 is delayed, something that would even affect the dialogue due to the second attempt of the constitutional process.
Everything started after the statements of the spokesperson minister, Camila Vallejowho defended the need for the Government of Chile to have its own vision of economic and industrial development, even with the treaty in question.
Thus, he sent a message to the Senate: “We have attended to the criticism of the ruling party of this agreement. How are we pretending to solve? With our strategy of side letters”said.
“The decision of the President, who has all the power to wait, and the call is to the Senate, just as the Government respects and has respected the decision of the Senate Now it’s up to the Senate to respect the President’s decision.”he added.

The reaction to Vallejo’s statements was quick and, within minutes, a press point was convened that brought together the three parties of Chile Vamos in the Senate.
Manuel Jose Ossandon (RN), Luciano Cruz-Coke (Evopoli) and Moreira got there.
The call was energetic and so was the position: it was questioned that until that moment neither the President, nor the chancellor nor the spokesperson nor any other government figure had given a term or an estimate of how much would be reasonable to ratify the TPP11.
While Cruz-Coke pointed to what is established in the Constitution, Moreira went furthersummarizing that what is happening is a bad sign for the relationship with Congress.
“The spokeswoman once again superbly intends to impose. The Government has not given any certainty about the date of promulgation of the treaty. If this is going to be the relationship there will be no agreements. It can also reach constitutional agreements”settled.
Officialism annoyed with the annoyance of the opposition
As expected, the ruling party reacted annoyed, particularly with the possibility that the TPP11 finally ends up impacting other issues, such as constituent talks.
Senator Juan Ignacio Latorre (RD), detractor of the TPP11, indicated that, in his opinion, it is “an exaggeration to relate both things”.
“Here we are in front of a power of the President. Once Congress approves it does not oblige or mandate to deposit it immediately, ”he added.
“It seems a bit disrespectful, they cannot be advising the President. That they condition this to a constitutional agreement speaks of a pretext, an excuse”, he accused.
What is certain is that the lack of definition and lack of any announcement about times not only worries the opposition, it also does so in sectors of the center left.
Before the request for lights or clues, from the Government they explain that the times are dictated by other countries with the answers they have to the letters, with which an exception to chapter 9 is sought regarding the resolution of conflicts between States and investors.
If this feeling installed by Moreira does find support in the opposition, the legislative agenda would be more complicated for La Moneda than it already is: the Boric’s government needs support from Chile We are on our way to discussing ambitious projects and major reformssuch as the tax, especially when it reaches the second procedure.
