Ukraine war: Scholz and Johnson want to deliver more weapons

As far as the delivery of German tanks to Ukraine is concerned, Chancellor Olaf Scholz is rather cautious. “The fact is that we are trying to deliver weapons that are helpful and can be used well. We have done that in the past and we will continue to do so,” said Scholz at the press conference with Prime Minister Johnson. These were primarily anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons and ammunition. However, he agreed with Johnson that you always have to look at “what can be used effectively. The questions can only be answered very technically”.

Ukraine’s Ambassador Andriy Melnyk had previously asked the German government to make the “Marder” infantry fighting vehicle available to the Ukrainian army – and to start with one “marten” per week. “We need heavy weapons now. The Marder armored personnel carrier would be one way,” Melnyk told the news portal “The Pioneer”.
