The Ukrainian capital, kyiv, was hit by a missile attack, authorities said early Wednesday. Two people died in the Shevchenkivsky district, where a fire broke out from falling debris.

“Missile attack… The air defense forces are already operating,” the Military Administration of the kyiv region wrote late in the morning on Telegram.

Emergency services moved to the southern Darnitskyi district, where missile debris fell on a commercial building, wrote Sergiy Popko, head of the city’s military administration.

“As a result of falling debris in the Shevchenkivskyi district of kyiv (…) two people died according to initial reports,” the official wrote.

“Firefighters and rescue services are putting out a fire in the Darnitskyi district, which started following debris fell on the roof of a commercial building,” Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram.
