Ukrainian Floods Devastate Farmers: 10 Dead and 41 Missing while Russia Denies Responsibility

Ten people are dead in the Ukrainian flood area, 41 are still missing according to official information. Farmers are left with nothing.

The water is slowly receding in southern Ukraine. The level of the Dnipro is falling, according to the authorities in the regional capital of Cherson it was around 3.29 meters in the morning. In the region, the average water level of the river is said to have dropped by two meters to around 3.60 meters.

The Kachowka Reservoir itself has lost 72 percent of its water since the dam was destroyed, according to the rescue staff. The amount of water drained of 14.4 cubic kilometers corresponds to about a third of Lake Constance.

A village near Mykolaiv was turned into an island by the flood, farmers are left with nothing.

“The hay in the yard has been washed away, both mine and my neighbors’. So there’s no fodder for the cattle. I lost at least a little hay, but people lost 600-700 bales of hay. Who’s going to pay for that ?

Russia further denies having blown up the Kakhovka Dam. Moscow has released a video showing Russian volunteers helping in the Russian-held part of the Kherson region.

Near the liberated city of Cherson, Ukrainian aid workers are concentrating their efforts on the few remaining residents who don’t want to leave their homes. They didn’t want that during the Russian invasion, occupation and now after losing everything to the floods.
