A motorcycle GP was held for the first time on the “Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya” in 1992. Since then, the MotoGP aces have been racing year after year on the 4.657 km long track, which is located in Montmeló, about 20 kilometers north-east of Barcelona. The circuit has six left and eight right turns, the longest straight is 1047 m long.
By the way, the most successful GP driver in Montmeló is still Valentino Rossi, the MotoGP legend celebrated a total of ten GP victories in Catalonia, seven of them in the “premier class”. Yamaha star Fabio Quartararo won last year, back then on the traditional date in early June.
However, because Mugello was postponed to June for this season after the 2022 spectator bankruptcy and the Formula 1 GP was already taking place in Barcelona on June 4, 2023, Dorna had to postpone the date for the Catalunya MotoGP event this year slide first weekend of September.
