UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths announced on Wednesday that he had met with the President of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and Commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Daglo known as “Hemidti”, as well as leaders of civil society.
“In Port Sudan, the head of the United Nations Mission in Sudan, Volker Peretz and I spoke with General Al-Burhan, General Hemidti and civil society leaders. We need strong guarantees regarding the safety and security of aid workers and supplies,” he explained in a tweet.
Since April 15, Sudan has been the scene of clashes between the army and the “Rapid Support Forces” (RSF) in Khartoum and other cities.
