After the failure of a ceasefire resolution for the Gaza war in the World Security Council, the UN General Assembly wants to deal with a similar draft this Tuesday (from 9 p.m. CET). The text of the resolution introduced by Egypt calls, among other things, for a humanitarian ceasefire. A passage is considered very likely. However, UN General Assembly resolutions are not binding, but merely symbolic.

At the end of October, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution to improve the humanitarian situation and call for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The more powerful UN Security Council, whose resolutions are binding, had also passed a Gaza resolution a few weeks ago, but had already failed twice. Among other things, last week there was no agreement on a draft resolution introduced by the United Arab Emirates for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, as the US vetoed it.
