On the 22nd, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for more humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

At a press conference held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on this day, Guterres pointed out that “there has been no significant change in the war taking place in the Gaza Strip over the past few weeks.”

According to the latest report from the Gaza Strip’s Ministry of Health, 20,057 Palestinians have been killed and 53,320 injured in the Israeli offensive.

“The majority of these people are women and children,” Guterres said, adding, “1.9 million people, or 85% of Gaza’s population, have lost their homes.”

They also pointed out that more than 500,000 people, a quarter of Gaza’s population, are facing catastrophic levels of starvation, and only 10% of children who have fled to southern Gaza are getting the water they need.

Guterres said Israel’s offensive methods are causing significant disruption in the delivery of humanitarian relief supplies to the Gaza Strip. He also pointed out that the lives of aid workers carrying out humanitarian work are also being threatened.

More than 130 UN staff are known to have died in the Gaza Strip over the past 76 days.

President Guterres emphasized that a humanitarian ceasefire is the only way to meet the desperate needs of the people of Gaza and end their nightmare.
