The view is breathtaking. You can see the whole of Klosters. The wind blows a little – not too much, but not too little either. A short and refreshing cool down is already taken care of. A sip of water is also a must. We have arrived. Arrived at post 122. The steel A4 panel is attached to a tree trunk. Now it’s time to unpack your cell phone, click on the “Wildmännli-Weg” web app and scan the QR code on the information board. Zack – a lot of information and pictures on the topic “Die Röngg von Klosters” appear on the smartphone. In addition to the fresh mountain air, exciting facts about Klosters can now also be recorded.

All this is part of the new «Wildmännli-Weg». This adventure consists not only of one way – but of seven. What sounds confusing is actually quite simple: seven existing hiking trails in the Klosters, Saas and Schlappin region have been combined into one circular tour – the “Wildmännli-Weg”. All routes add up to 40 kilometers. 50 items are distributed on it. With each item, you receive multimedia information on a topic via your cell phone. The topics are broad. History, agriculture, wild herbs, forests, natural hazards or local hunting.

Here, at post 122, as already mentioned, it is about “Die Röngg von Klosters”. The cell phone is firmly in hand, the web app is open. From the text one can see that the «Röngg» used to be a form of social welfare. From around 1700 to 1900, needy Klosters families received a piece of land. They were allowed to cultivate, till and cultivate this land. A few pictures on this topic are also visible.

Through forest and meadows, over streams

The horizon of knowledge has been expanded. The mobile phone goes back into the trouser pocket, now the hike continues. Finally, there are other posts to be explored on the «Gadäwäg» hiking stage. The path leads through the forest, through meadows, over streams and even past one or the other animal. Through the posts you not only expand your basic knowledge, but also receive rewards. Every completed stage has a value. Hikers receive different e-vouchers for each completed and scanned section of the «Wildmännliweg». Rewards are a pocket knife, a walking stick or a voucher for coffee and cake in mountain houses. The articles can be picked up at the information office in Klosters.

The “Wildmännli-Weg” is suitable for all hikers. “We recommend this trail for families with children aged ten and older,” says Dominik Heeb, Head of Klosters Tourism. The new offer arose from the stimulus program for the 800th anniversary of the municipality of Klosters and was implemented in the past few months in time for the summer season. The Wildmännli is a reference to the municipality’s coat of arms.

Back to nature, back to Klosters, back to hiking. The voyage of discovery continues to post number 123. But if you want to know what it’s all about, you have to put on your hiking boots yourself, pack your sunscreen and go to Klosters. There’s a little foretaste: It’s going to be beastly…
