I could be superior, in general. Every day after the sixth hour, I went to Grandma’s for lunch and to do my homework. I had a lot of special lessons in the afternoon, so most of the time I didn’t go home from Grandma’s, but instead went to training, acting classes or drawing. I usually get home to my parents late at night.

Of course, my grandmother insisted that I call her on the phone as soon as I got home, so that she would know that there was nothing wrong with me. Of course, he never picked up the phone, and I just waited for a couple of rings and hung up. After that, of course, he rang us so that we know: he heard, he calmed down and we can also rest assured that he calmed down.

I wouldn’t say that we lived in an exciting region, in fact… I was terribly bored with these evening walks. I had time to think, and indeed I did, with a thousand. For example, I couldn’t figure out what makes this little phone ritual work:

How the hell did my Grandma know that I rang her and it wasn’t a false call? Or that it wasn’t a girlfriend who tried?
(at that time we used analog phones, 3 kilo red vinyl cubes. If you dropped them, it wasn’t the phone that broke, but the floor tile. And no, it didn’t write out the phone number. It didn’t even have a display! – we’re getting old, aren’t we?)

And I will know that he rang us?

And how would Grandma know that we heard her answer?

I kept thinking about this: Shouldn’t I call back one more time so that Grandma knows that I really called first and to make sure that we know that she has calmed down? However, does this really solve anything, or have we just pushed the problem away? Is there any way we can both be completely sure of what we’re doing? I had to admit that I am unable to sound a perfect agreement with Nagy. On the other hand, wouldn’t for example a hundred round trips be enough? But if I think about it: my worried Grandma was perfectly satisfied even with a ring in return.

The years went by, the hairs thinned, I picked up this and that. Grandma is gone.

I often think of it. And sure enough, the phone calls came in again and again. The question still haunted me, this time in a much more general way. Couldn’t there be some way, with delays, timing, samples or any other trick, to convince the other person with absolute certainty and come to an agreement? “Well, I never did.”

Then one day I read about a computer technology problem, about the troubled planning of the Byzantine general, and I had to accept that what I guessed during the boring walks was really true: Nagy and I would never have been able to create a perfect consensus. Our little ritual worked as it should, but we could never be absolutely sure that we both thought the same about the world.

It was impossible from the first moment.

With this little story, I will start a series of articles. I will present to you in detail one of the most influential inventions of our time – if not the entire history – Bitcoin.

I will try to discuss the basic concepts and essential consequences of this versatile and extraordinary invention in an understandable, but by no means dumb manner, while highlighting a number of mistakes and misunderstandings. Along the way, we will dispel quite a few misconceptions resulting from deliberate misrepresentation.

Bitcoin must be understood!

We are seeing and will experience decisive changes that will fundamentally transform many areas of our lives in the near future. Changes, most of which we owe to Bitcoin. I plan to come up with logical, interconnected articles every week. I want to discuss many topics, and there will definitely be articles that will challenge the basic world view of many of you. Ready, but with good intentions. Don’t swallow anything just because I wrote it: feel free to doubt it, look it up, ask questions! I’m sure I’ll make a lot of mistakes, but I’ll just go for it.

It’s going to be a bumpy ride…!
