High cholesterol in the blood is called the “silent killer”, and this is because of its danger to human health, so its presence in the body in an appropriate amount is extremely important for the performance of body functions.

One of the main functions of cholesterol is in the cell, which is the basic unit of life, as it serves as a precursor for the synthesis of vital substances in the body such as steroids, bile and vitamin D, according to the “Times Now News” website.

What happens if the level of cholesterol in the body increases?

When the amount of cholesterol in the body exceeds 200 mg/dl, it is said to lead to high levels of cholesterol in the blood. Doctors advise several lifestyle and diet changes to control the cholesterol level.

And when its levels remain high in the blood for a long time, it leads to critical conditions such as an increased risk of heart disease and stroke.

The reason why high cholesterol has a fatal effect on human health is that it is identified late, and the initial signs of high cholesterol are very subtle and can be easily ignored, and this causes it to increase inside the body.

Limp:

One of the most important signs of high cholesterol in the legs, this condition is characterized by pain, cramps and fatigue in the muscles of the legs, and this often occurs after walking a certain distance and disappears when the person rests.

The patient also feels claudication pain mostly in the calf muscles, thighs, buttocks, hips, and feet, and the pain may increase with time.

Cold feet and legs:

This is another typical symptom of high cholesterol. Feeling cold, especially during the summer and when the temperature is high, is an indication that you have peripheral artery disease. This condition may not bother you at first, but if it continues for a longer period, you should consult a doctor immediately.

Change in skin color and texture of the legs:

High cholesterol causes plaque to be deposited in the blood vessels, affecting blood flow, and when it reaches certain areas, it affects the overall function and skin texture of that particular limb.

So if you notice certain changes in the skin color and texture of your legs and you have no other reasons for that, it is likely that high cholesterol is the cause, so it is best to consult a doctor immediately.
