United States: shooting at Walmart supermarket leaves less than 10 dead – USA – International

A man shot dead at least six people Tuesday night in a supermarket United States Walmartshortly before Thanksgiving and a few days after a massacre at a Colorado LGBTQ club that left five dead and shocked the country.

The Walmart massacre took place in the city of Chesapeakein the state of Virginiaeastern United States.

The attacker was a store clerk who later killed himself, police said Wednesday. “We believe it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound”Chesapeake Police Chief Mark Solesky said at a news conference, also saying the shooter opened fire with a gun and the motive is still unknown.

The officer of the Chesapeake police department, Leo Kosinski, informed the press shortly before that “multiple fatalities” had been found in the supermarket, which according to local media it was full of customers shopping for Thanksgiving dinner.

As Kosinski explained to the television network, the Chesapeake police spokesman, the event occurred after 10 p.m., when the establishment was still open to the public, and the police were alerted to the events at 10:12 p.m. (local time on Wednesday).

A forty of emergency vehicles traveled to the place, where a huge police operation was also deployed.

The Walmart supermarket chain said it was “shocked by this tragic event” and that he was “working closely with law enforcement.”

The city council has announced that a press conference will be held to report on the event at 08:00 local time.

Chesapeake, in southeastern Virginia, is a city of about 250,000 people and is part of the Virginia Beach and Norfolk metropolitan area. The massacre came less than 48 hours before Americans across the country celebrate Thanksgiving.

The event occurs just four days after five other people died in an attack against an LGTB club in Colorado, in which 25 people were also injured.

That other shooting occurred at midnight Saturday at an adult venue called Club Q.which hosts “drag queen” performances.

The assailant, identified as Anderson Lee Aldrich, began shooting at people as soon as he entered and was subdued by at least two of those present, one of whom was injured.

Gun violence occurs at an alarming rate in the United States, where more than 600 shootings so far in 2022according to Gun Violence Archive.
