Eventually… maybe. Less than fifteen days after the CIA refuted the intervention of a foreign power to explain the mysterious “Havana syndrome”, could several powers be the cause? According to a group of experts consulted by the intelligence agencies, electromagnetic waves and ultrasound, emitted at close range, could have caused some of the “abnormal health incidents” (IAS), as they are called in the administrative jargon to evoke the “Havana Syndrome”. The technology likely to cause the kind of symptoms observed (headaches, nausea, dizziness, even neurological damage) exists, said these experts, according to an excerpt from their report made public by the American intelligence department.
This evil first struck American and Canadian diplomats stationed in Cuba in 2016, hence its name “Havana syndrome”, then these IAS were reported elsewhere in the world (China, Germany, Australia, Russia , Austria) and even in Washington. In August 2021, US Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit to Hanoi was delayed three hours after such an alert in the Vietnamese capital. Victims said they were struck down with the symptoms at embassies and their personal residences, and in at least one case, at an open-air red light in a foreign country.
“Nervous System Cellular Damage”
According to the medical, scientific and engineering specialists who make up the task force and who have access to classified HAI information, “a fraction” of the hundreds of cases reviewed “cannot be easily explained by environmental or medical conditions.” and they could be due to external stimuli”. Especially since among the cases studied, all “authentic and convincing”, some affected several people in the same space, who then showed signs of “cellular damage to the nervous system”. And it is possible to design devices that are easy to conceal and capable of sending electromagnetic waves or ultrasound towards one or more people.
In doing so, the experts largely confirm a National Academies of Science report published in late 2020 which concluded that “pulsed and directed radiofrequency energy” was “the most plausible mechanism to explain these cases.”
Conversely, experts consider several theories “incredible” such as the use of ionizing radiation, which can be produced by radioactive elements, chemical or biological agents, sonic or acoustic weapons or heat from the electromagnetic energy. The intelligence community will continue its investigations. “We continue to pursue complementary efforts to get to the bottom of anomalous health incidents – and to provide access to world-class care for those affected,” said Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines and CIA Director Bill Burns in a joint statement.
Last month, a senior US government official said, speaking on condition of anonymity, that it was “unlikely that any foreign actor, including Russia, would wage a protracted global campaign to harm (US embassy) personnel with a unique weapon or mechanism.
