WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – Community members of all faiths gathered for a vigil for Israel in West Hartford.

They are continuing to remember those who have died and those who are still suffering in Israel.

The war between Hamas and Israel began nearly two and a half weeks ago and thousands have been killed, injured, and taken hostage.

Hundreds from all faiths gathered at Emmanuel Synagogue standing for justice and praying for peace.

“When Christian clergy come to stand shoulder to shoulder with us our vigil, we feel like we’re not alone,” said Rabbi David Small.

“They talk about everyone is separated by six degrees of separation, in the Jewish community it’s much smaller,” said Rabbi Tuvia Brander.

They are calling for the release of the hostages. Two hostages were released Monday, but that leaves over 200 more who are still being held captive.

“Every innocent man, woman, and child who has been stolen away from their homes needs to be returned regardless of what their nationality is.”

The Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford has already raised $5 million for Israel.
