University of Nicosia Launches Free Blockchain Course for 150,000 Learners

Why the University of Nicosia Created a Bitcoin Class

“The first eight weeks are free to anyone with an internet connection,” George Giaglis said of an educational initiative that has transformed cryptocurrency training globally. The Executive Director of the Institute for the Future at the University of Nicosia explained that the course was originally established because there was nowhere in the university system to learn about Bitcoin properly.

Launched in 2014 in Cyprus, the free online blockchain programme has drawn more than 150,000 learners from over 120 countries. As the curriculum enters its autumn 2026 edition, which began on 28 September, the initiative combines free foundational teaching with an advanced paid track, hardware wallet rewards, and targeted scholarships.

Evolution in Digital Assets

Over twelve years, the subject matter has evolved significantly alongside an established regulatory regime, an institutional market, and a serious research literature. The curriculum has had to keep pace with all three distinct shifts.

The free introductory track covers weeks one through eight.

Advanced Curriculum and Financial Investment

For those looking to deepen their technical and regulatory knowledge, an advanced track covers weeks nine through twelve and costs €199. Advanced students earn a blockchain-verifiable certificate, extended access to course materials, dedicated networking channels, and daily cryptocurrency market briefings. Anyone already registered for the introductory track can upgrade.

Hardware Wallets, Sponsorships, and Scholarships

The autumn edition incorporates tangible incentives, featuring 1,000 hardware wallets and €37,000 in scholarships. Every student who completes the advanced track receives a Trezor Model T wallet. Furthermore, Cardano is sponsoring 25 advanced-track places, each valued at €199, and Ripple is backing five scholarships toward the university’s Master of Science in Blockchain and Digital Currency, each valued at €7,400.

Academic Direction and Industry Expertise

The curriculum, assessment, and certification remain under the university’s academic direction.
