University of Sonora will increase enrollment for medical students – El Sol de Hermosillo

The University of Sonora will increase the quota for new medical students, due to the increased demand for a greater number of medical specialists in Sonora, informed José Luis Alomía Zegarra.

The head of the State Health Secretariat reported that, in a period of no more than two years, it will increase to 280 spaces to train doctors at the University of Sonora, for which the corresponding procedures are being carried out.

In this way, the state official pointed out, it seeks to generate more opportunities to increase the number of doctors and health specialists within the medium term.

“We just had a meeting this week with the rector of Unison, Rita Plancarte, and they made us the request to increase the clinical spaces in the state in order to increase the places they offer in the medical career at Unison,” commented.

He also stressed that currently the university has a limited number of 200 medical students, where 120 spaces are in Hermosillo and 80 in Ciudad Obregón, so that it will seek to increase that figure to 280 spaces throughout the entity.

Meanwhile, Alomía Zegarra explained, the entity is experiencing a deficit of 491 medical specialists, for which he pointed out that the collaboration of the institution is required to train personnel to meet the existing demand for professionals in the entity.

In this sense, added the official, with the training of general practitioners, interns and interns will also be prepared to join the Public Health services of the State Government.
