Unlock Your Weight Loss Potential with Time-Restricted Eating

When talking about losing weight, it is obvious to think of restricting diet, calories, and exercise, but a doctor suggests a simpler way to achieve the desired goal.

And the gut health specialist and nutrition expert said that it is possible to lose weight without changing the foods you eat or the amount at all, and all you have to do is change the times you consume them.

Speaking on the BBC Sounds podcast hosted by diet expert Michael Mosley, Tim Spector revealed what we should eat and how we should eat to maximize our health and well-being.

Aside from limiting ultra-processed foods and incorporating fermented foods, such as sauerkraut, into your diet, the leading expert in nutrition and gut health, and co-founder of the ZOE app, came up with the idea of ”time-restricted eating.”

The practice, he said, “falls under the umbrella of intermittent fasting” and consists of eating at a specific time period and abstaining from food for the rest of the day.

“You can’t change how much you eat or what you eat. You just change the time window in which you eat,” he told podcast listeners.

Tim’s ideal plan includes fasting for 14 hours and eating 10 hours a day.

“In the UK, the average time window is probably around 15 or 16 hours, because we snack a lot. So we eat from when we get up in the morning until before we go to bed,” Tim noted.

He added: “There are a lot of studies that show that this is very bad for us. Not only does it give us a lot of sugar spikes and cause problems with our metabolism in this way, it encourages overeating and makes us sleep poorly, but it also has Bad effect on the microbes in our gut.”

He continued, “Microbes – like us – need a good night’s sleep. And if you give them that sleep, they will have a cleaning team out at night, and they will have a change of shifts.”
