47 countries military aid to Ukraine

A defense minister-level meeting of relevant countries to discuss military assistance to Ukraine, which is being invaded by Russia, was held online on May 23, with 47 countries participating.

This is the second meeting.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, who leads the meeting, said at a press conference after the meeting that about 20 countries had announced new military aid measures.

“Many countries provide shells, coastal defense systems, tanks and other combat vehicles,” he said, as well as training Ukrainian troops.

Specifically, Denmark will offer the US-made anti-ship missile “Harpoon” (with a range of over 100 km), and the Czech Republic will offer attack helicopters, tanks, and rocket systems.

“Several countries, including Italy, Greece, Norway and Poland, have announced the provision of highly needed cannons and ammunition,” and some countries have learned to maintain the functions of the Ukrainian army and acquire new weapons. He promised to cooperate in the training to plan.

Five new countries, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia, Ireland and Kosovo, participated in this meeting.

The Russian army is currently deploying about 20 ships, including submarines, in the Black Sea area, such as off the southern coast of Odessa, blocking sea shipping routes.

For this reason, it has been pointed out that the grain exports of Ukraine, an agricultural powerhouse, will be blocked, leading to food shortages and a global food crisis, especially in Africa and the Middle East.

The harpoon donation by Denmark will be used to strengthen the defense of Odessa on the Black Sea coast, which is expected to lead to the possibility that Ukraine can break the naval blockade and resume grain exports.
