It was 12:40 a.m. this Tuesday when the body of a woman was found on the ground near the Leuven ring. “We heard the emergency services arriving, but we did not see what happened,” some residents of the 170-apartment building told our colleagues at HLN. “Just before we also heard a man screaming, he was obviously panicked.”
In view of the suspicious circumstances of the death, a forensic doctor and the judicial police descended on the scene. The police are seeking to determine whether it was an accident or whether the 41-year-old woman fell by accident.
“Witnesses tried to resuscitate her but she appeared to have died on the spot. Shortly following the incident, a 45-year-old man arrived, panicked, and indicated that he was his companion,” said the prosecution.
The victim’s partner was arrested and will be questioned during the day regarding the exact course of the events.
