Unscrupulous Theft Strikes Local Stylist: Protecting Your Valuables and Preventing Car Break-Ins

The president of the association of merchants of Battice, Arnaud Dethier, does not hide his rage. This Wednesday, July 26, between 7 and 10:30 p.m., while celebrating his father’s birthday in a restaurant on rue Louvrex in Liège, he was the victim of an unscrupulous theft without breaking into his vehicle. Seven pairs of sunglasses, a three-piece suit and a wallet were stolen. But also a customer’s tailor-made wedding suit.

“It was when I returned to the car to retrieve the wallet that I realized that things had disappeared, says the boss of the Arnaud Concept Couture store, Place du Marché. I know that my vehicle was locked. certain.” Beyond the financial value of the objects on board, this one points above all to the sentimental value of the costume. “The client had given me his suit, with his coat, because I had to go to another client to show them to him. I had to give them back to him and it’s no longer there. It was a unique piece, a project done with the groom and his mom… If this jacket circulates, I know that I would recognize it”, launches it.

A complaint has been filed with the police. On the insurance side, on the other hand, it is more complicated. “The insurance companies had a hard time intervening because there was no break-in. The police are going to see if there are cameras. I also asked the restaurant if there were any. not.” This theft technique, also called mouse jacking, involves hacking into the car’s security system. “It’s more and more frequent. Several people told me they had the same thing in Liège or even in Paris. Are there ways to avoid this, like locking your car with your smartphone for example? We could not answer me, “adds Arnaud Dethier.

The stylist is obviously in bad luck this week. A few days earlier, a person also stole the 8 cushions placed in front of the window of his shop. “I had taken it with pragmatism. They are only cushions. But this time, I am revolted”, he concludes. A call for witnesses has been launched on Facebook.
