Update on Decommissioned Australian MRH-90 Taipan Helicopters and Ukraine Request

Decommissioned Australian MRH-90 Taipan helicopters will be sent for disposal rather than transferred to Ukraine, despite the request. ABC TV channel reported this.

“The Australian government has decided to bury its decommissioned fleet of Taipan helicopters instead of transferring them to Ukraine. <…> Ukraine made an official request for MRH-90 on December 19, 2023,” it says in an article on the channel’s website.

The Australian Armed Forces stopped operating Taipan helicopters 14 months ahead of schedule. This comes after the death of four military personnel due to the crash of an MRH-90 during a training exercise. It was originally planned that the helicopters would be taken out of service in 2037. The dismantling process of Taipan has already begun, the publication writes. The Ukrainian community expressed dissatisfaction with Australia’s decision.

Ukraine will also have to face a number of problems due to the supply of F-16 fighters, since they are very difficult to maintain, said Advisor to the Air Force Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Yuriy Ignat. He recalled that the Ukrainian army already has four types of Soviet aircraft. If an American fighter is added to them, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will have to solve many difficult problems, reports telekanal 360.
