2. AFRICA

2.1. South Africa

In South Africa, the episode of GAHP to virus A(H5N1) which began on March 4, 2021 but was not first reported until April 9, 2021 (see news 17316, 17378, 17455, 17602, 17769, 18004, 18142, 18252,18351 and 18416 continued with 3 additional outbreaks (OIE reports 43819 and 44592).

Two foci have been identified in the province of Gauteng on November 1, 2021 in a farm of 268 poultry in the local municipality Ekurhuleni and on November 16, 2021 in a farm of 200 poultry in the local municipality ofAt the river.

An outbreak was identified on 2 December in the province of Cap Occidental, in a backyard of 33 poultry in the local municipality Oudtshoorn, district d’Eden.

2.2. Niger

At Niger, the health authorities notified the OIE on January 6, 2022 (OIE report 45989) a new episode from GAHP to virus A(H5N1) identified on December 31 in a flock of 18,575 laying hens (1,400 died) of Niamey.

2.3. Nigeria

At Nigeria, the episode of GAHP to virus A(H5N1) originally reported February 1, 2021 (news 17039, 17602, 17769 and 18512) continues with the report on January 4 and 16, 2022 (OIE reports 45781 and 46675) of 34 additional households. These outbreaks, identified between November 16, 2021 and January 11, 2022, concerned 148,017 poultry from farms ranging in size from 1 to 32,000 poultry. The locations of these outbreaks were as follows:

  • State ofAnambra : 2 outbreaks identified on December 27 in the local government ofAnambra East ;
  • State of Bauchi : 7 outbreaks identified including 4 in the local government of Toro on 15, 24 and 27 (2 outbreaks) December and 3 to Bauchi, November 27, December 20 and January 20;
  • State ofEdo : an outbreak identified on January 9, 2022 in a farm of 11,000 laying hens of the local government ofIkpoba-Okha ;
  • State of Gombe : four outbreaks identified on 13, 21 (2 outbreaks) and 22 December in local government backyards inAkko ;
  • State of Kano : five outbreaks on 17 and 26 November in the local government of Gwale, on 2 December (2 outbreaks) in the local government of Style and on November 27 in the local government of Horses of the South ;
  • State of Kaduna : two outbreaks identified on January 5, 2022 in a farm of 32,000 laying hens in the local government of Igabi and on the same day in a farm of 3,000 poultry in the local government of lere ;
  • State of Nassarawa : two outbreaks identified on 9 and 11 January 2022 in laying hen farms of the local government of Karu (respectively 5,000 and 800 poultry);
  • State of Niger : two outbreaks identified on December 14 and 20 in the local government of Tafa ;
  • State of Plateau : three outbreaks identified on 21 and 27 (2 outbreaks) December in the local government of Jos South and three outbreaks identified on January 11 in the local governments of Low, Jos North and Jos South;
  • State of Rivers : three foci identified in the local governments of Port Harcourt on November 16 (2 outbreaks) andObio / Akpor December 14.

The virological diagnosis was confirmed by real-time PCR by the National Veterinary Research Institute, Vom and surviving poultry were euthanized.

2.4. Togo

At Togo, a new episode from GAHP to virus A(H5N1) identified in the maritime region (OIE report 46660) has been notified to the OIE. It consists of a single focus located in Adeticopé, prefecture of Uncle, concerning a farm of 11,450 laying hens and pullets (1,801 died).

The diagnosis was confirmed by molecular biology technique (RT-PCR multiplex) at the Central Veterinary Laboratory of Lomé, National Laboratory.

3. ASIA

3.1. South Korea

In South Korea, the episode of GAHP to virus A(H5N1) which began on November 9 (new 18416,18512 and 18594) continues with the reporting to the OIE on January 10, 2022 (reports 46159) of 2 additional outbreaks.

A focus has been identified in the province of South Jeolla in a farm of 14,000 poultry in Juksan-ri, muan district.

A focus has been identified in the province of Jeolla du Nord on January 6 in a farm of 16,455 poultry in Daesa-ri, commune of Jeongeup.

The diagnosis was confirmed theAnimal and Plant Quarantine Agency (APQA), Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) National Laboratory.

3.2. Japan

At Japan, the episode of GAHP to virus A(H5N1) which began on November 12 (new 18416,18512 and 18594) continues with reporting to the OIE on 6 and 14 January 2022 (reporting 45968 and 46548) of three additional outbreaks identified on December 30 in a farm of 130,000 poultry of Saijo, prefecture ofEhime and on January 4, 2022 in farms of 148,000 and 80,000 located in the same city.

The virological diagnosis was confirmed by RT PCR and sequencing by the National Institute of Animal Health Laboratoire national.

3.3. Vietnam

At Vietnam, health authorities reported to the OIE on 7 January 2022 a new episode of HPAI involving a virus A(H5N1) which began on October 12, 2021 (report 45998). This episode currently consists of 5 identified outbreaks:
