Controversy: health reform would include sobanderos and healers in a preventive and predictive model

This was stated by the Ministry of Health through a response to a right of petition.

A new controversy arose in the last hours in relation to the health reform bill that the national government is promoting in the Congress of the Republic.

This time, the controversy was provoked by the response to a right of petition in which the Ministry of Health announces that among the profiles of health workers linked to the new care model would be sobanderos, yerbateros and different “traditional doctors”.

The pronouncement was given as a result of one of the questions that Senator Carlos Chacón, of the Liberal Party, asked that ministerial portfolio.

“Please inform, regarding health professionals. Have the necessary profiles that the health of the future demands been designed or is it only sought to ‘nationalize’ the existing plants by changing their cost?”, was the question that the parliamentarian asked in his right to petition.

To answer, the Ministry of Health recalled that it is proposing to create basic health teams that will be visiting different territories. Among other professionals that will integrate these groups, they pointed out that there will be general practitioners, nursing professionals and assistants, psychologists and health promoters.

The idea is that these health personnel provide communities with the comprehensive care they need to improve their quality of life.

“It should be noted that within the framework of the preventive, predictive and resolute Care Model, the formation of the aforementioned Territorial Medical Teams is contemplated as an operational tool to identify, design, plan, implement and monitor health actions, focused on people, families and communities throughout the different moments of the life course”, detailed the Ministry of Health in its response .
