A private US company plans to lay the foundation stone for the first commercial landing on the moon on Monday. The unmanned lander “Peregrine” from Astrobotic is scheduled to take off from the Cape Canaveral spaceport in the morning (8:18 a.m. CET at the earliest) and land on Earth’s satellite at the end of February. The US space agency NASA wants to prepare trips for its astronauts to the moon with the help of “Peregrine Mission 1” and is sending several measuring devices along with them.

The lunar exosphere and surface material of the Earth’s satellite will be examined. Private individuals were also able to buy space to transport material to the moon in the “Peregrine” lander, which is 1.9 meters high and has a diameter of 2.5 meters. A “Vulcan Centaur” rocket from the US manufacturer ULA is used for launch.

Just in April, a Japanese company failed in a similar mission. Contact with the probe was lost. The company ispace assumes that its lander fell onto the lunar surface in free fall.
