THE GOVERNMENT estimates that there will be a strengthening of the value of the United States dollar for quite a long time. This happened because Uncle Sam’s economic conditions began to strengthen and the inflation rate began to subside even though it was still above the Federal Reserve’s target.
This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto during the Halal Bi Halal activity at his office, Jakarta, Tuesday (16/4). The projection of the strengthening of the US dollar in the long term, he said, was also put forward by the World Bank.
“We have to protect capital, so capital must continue to be maintained. And we continue to carry out structural reforms to maintain that,” he said.
The strengthening of the US dollar, said Airlangga, not only had an impact on the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate, but also the currencies of other countries. The rupiah exchange rate is also considered not to have weakened as deeply as countries comparable to Indonesia.
The government, added Airlangga, will take a role in supporting rupiah stability through macro policies. We strive to continue to grow strong domestic economic conditions.
But he admitted it was not an easy task. This is because the challenges looming over the domestic economy are not just the weakening of the rupiah. Global economic uncertainty resulting from widespread geopolitical conflict is worth paying attention to.
“These things are our homework together in the next 1-2 months, we must continue to maintain growth, and delivery from PSN can also be achieved at the end of this year. So in this way we have to work harder, because the world is not good either- fine,” concluded Airlangga. (Z-10)
