US launches secret talks with Saudi Arabia to increase oil production

The Axios portal, citing a number of current and former representatives of the US authorities, announced the start of secret negotiations between the US and Saudi Arabia to increase oil production.

Brett McGurk, White House Middle East Policy Coordinator, and Amos Hochstein, Senior Adviser on Global Energy Security at the State Department, arrived in the kingdom the day before.

The US would like to negotiate with Saudi Arabia to increase oil production. Then this will allow Washington to impose a wide range of sanctions once morest Russian oil without the risk of a sharp increase in prices in the oil market. In addition, on the eve of the elections in the fall of 2022, the United States would like to achieve a reduction in fuel prices, since this issue causes strong dissatisfaction among Americans.

So far, Saudi Arabia has adhered to an agreement with Russia on the level of oil production. But it expires in September.
