West demands redress for Russian war crimes… Russia says the West is covering up Ukraine’s crimes
The international community condemned Russia’s alleged war crimes at the UN Security Council on the 22nd (local time) and demanded an end to the invasion.
On the occasion of the 77th High-Level Week of the UN General Assembly, the ministers of major countries directly attended the Security Council meeting and raised their voices about the situation in Ukraine.
“The international order is being ripped to pieces before our eyes,” U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blincoln said at a Security Council meeting at the UN headquarters in New York on the same day.
“We must hold the perpetrators accountable,” Blincoln said, saying he had witnessed evidence of war crimes in Ukraine, including the murders of hundreds of civilians and burials.
“All countries must tell Putin to stop this atrocity,” he said.
In response to President Putin’s recent mobilization of reserve forces and threats to the possibility of using nuclear weapons, he said, “All member countries must send a clear message that[Russia]must immediately stop this reckless nuclear threat.”

French Foreign Minister Catherine Colona, who is the seat of the Security Council, stressed the need for accountability, saying, “Without justice there is no peace.”
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also cited cases of brutal war crimes such as summary executions, sexual violence and torture, saying, “All these charges must be thoroughly investigated and accountability established.
“The perpetrators must be held accountable in a fair and independent judicial process,” he said.
At the meeting, Prosecutor Karim Khan of the International Criminal Court (ICC), established to punish war crimes, also attended the meeting and said that he believed war crimes were committed in Ukraine.
Prosecutor Khan said, “We must hear the echo of Nuremberg again,” referring to the Nuremberg Court, which condemned German Nazi war criminals after World War II.
However, at the Security Council meeting on the same day, Russia showed a hostile attitude, arguing that Ukraine was the one who committed the war crimes.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said war crimes in Donbas should be brought to trial “irrespective of nationality” and that “the United States and its allies cover the crimes of the Kiiu regime”.
The recent referendum for Russia’s incorporation in occupied areas such as Donbas is a reaction to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky’s order that “all Russians should leave Ukraine,” Lavrov said.
