US reportedly set to impose more restrictions on China’s AI and supercomputers – Engadget

according toNew York Times reports, the United States intends to expand restrictions on the export of advanced computer technology to China, in order to reduce China’s ability to produce advanced weapons and surveillance systems. The new norm will be modeled on U.S. export restrictions on Huawei, with the same no-sale approach to adding companies, government research labs and other entities to the restricted list. Countries around the world will also be restricted from producing American-made technology to China.

These can all be seen as part of the same restrictive strategy, all aimed at preventing China from acquiring the latest technology in supercomputers, especially AI computing, and maintaining the West’s edge.

The specific restricted list has yet to be officially announced by the United States, but it is expected that there should be state-owned enterprises, academic institutions, and some Internet companies that develop AI technology.
