Using waste heat saves 67 billion euros for Europe

An engineering company in Denmark says industries and transport systems in Europe waste so much heat that capturing and reusing excess could save consumers more than €67 billion.

Danfoss Energy has shown that the surplus waste heat energy produced by factories, supermarkets, sewage facilities, data centers and subway networks each year is 2,860 TWh, which is the same as the EU’s total demand for heating and hot water in residential buildings and the service sector. .

The world’s largest untapped source of energy

The CEO said that oversupply is the world’s largest untapped source of energy.

Enhancing energy efficiency is essential for the bloc in the coming years to ensure a safer and more environmentally friendly energy grid. The use of waste heat will help the transition to carbon neutrality, as it does not require burning new oil, gas or coal.

“It’s not energy that we need to produce, it’s energy that we need to reuse, and that can be done with the technology we already have,” CEO Kim Fosing explained in an interview.
