The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, decreed this Sunday three days of national mourning after confirming the death of 22 people and the disappearance of another 52 in Las Tejerías, state of Aragua (north), due to the large-scale landslide that occurred at night. this Saturday and caused by the rains of the last few days.

Likewise, the president decreed the declaration as a Natural Disaster and Catastrophe Zone in the communities that make up Las Tejerías, epicenter of the landslide and floods, which should advance recovery actions.

Earlier in the morning, the president himself had indicated that his government should attend to the emergency created by the rains, for which he asked his ministerial cabinet, as well as all security agencies, “the maximum deployment for the comprehensive care of the people ”.



From that moment on, the Venezuelan President described the situation left by the rainfall as “difficult and painful” and by virtue of this he ordered Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to lead a ministerial team to deal with it.

Just after noon this Sunday, Delcy Rodríguez, after arriving at Las Tejerías to assess the damage left by the persistent rains that occurred in the Santiago Mariño municipality, confirmed that at least 22 people died and 52 are still missing.

The Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino, confirmed that “on the instructions of our Commander in Chief, Nicolás Maduro, the Strategic Operational Command has deployed men, forces and means of health, communications, search and removal, etc., at the site of the damages, in coordination with other citizen security bodies.”

Meanwhile, Sector Vice President Remigio Ceballos Ichaso announced the activation of the Emergency and Disaster Control and Coordination Center to assist affected families. He emphasized that “three shelters and a collection center were activated to guarantee food, medicine, supplies and medical attention.”

The also Minister of the Interior highlighted that “the National Risk System is activated with 1,200 Firefighters, Civil Protection and Police officers, together with the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Fanb), attending to the emergency and disaster, caused by heavy rains in the last 24 hours, we maintain deployment.”
