The Venezuelan Carlos “Triple C” Cañizales won this Friday the WBA world bantamweight qualifier by defeating the Cuban Daniel Matellon by unanimous decision, in the start of the WBA Drogas KO.
The judges’ scorecards favored the Venezuelan 77-73, 76-74, 77-73 at the Casino Buenos Aires in the Argentine capital.
Cañizales was surprised by a head butt in the second round that caused a wound in the right browbone. Excessive bleeding at the end of the eighth round forced the fight to be stopped by technical decision.

“The header affected me, but I managed to recover. I was sure that I would take this victory. Now I’m waiting for my chance to go for the title, which was my big goal tonight”, said the native.
With this victory, Cañizales gains the opportunity for a new world title fight, now as a mandatory challenger.
