The leadership, factions and groups of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the ninth convocation signed a statement that the next elections will be held only after the end of martial law.

The statement was adopted at a meeting in the format of the “Jean Monnet Dialogues” for Peace and Democracy, past November 10-12 in Transcarpathia. Strana.ua was the first to report this on November 30. published text of the statement.

The document says that representatives of all political forces represented in the Ukrainian parliament “agreed that future free and fair national elections (parliamentary, presidential) will be held after the end of the war and the end of martial law with time sufficient to prepare for the elections ( at least six months after the end of martial law).”

The document was signed by David Arakhamia from the Servant of the People faction, Yulia Tymoshenko from Batkivshchyna, Irina Gerashchenko from Eurosolidarity, Alexandra Ustinova from Holos and representatives of other parliamentary groups, notes “Ukrainian Truth”.

Presidential elections in Ukraine were planned to be held in March 2024. At the end of August 2023, Vladimir Zelensky said that he was ready to run for a new presidential term if elections were held during the war. In October, Ukraine did not hold elections to the Verkhovna Rada due to the current martial law. Zelensky said in early November that “now is not the time for elections.”
