Parents of first-graders who did not have enough space in Krasnodar school No. 102 were outraged by the comment of Anna Minkova, vice-governor of the region. A video from a meeting about this situation on July 27 went viral on social media.
“It is your husband’s choice to work 1,500 kilometers from home and not take part in raising children. It is your choice to have children. Do you want me to say this?” Minkova said.
“You are so interesting … The developer shows you the school from the window, says: “Here is the school.” And, probably, you didn’t ask: are there any places there at all? she added.
Minkova later published an apology on her Telegram channel. She admitted that some of her phrases could sound harsh, and stated that she did not want to offend or accuse anyone. “I understand every problem and pain that the parents expressed at the meeting. All first-graders are our children, for whom we try to create the best conditions. But we cannot, in accordance with the requirements for organizing the process of educating children, arrange for everyone to attend a particular school, ”she wrote.
Minkova added that a public group of active parents, the school administration and the city’s education department will soon be created, which will review all submitted applications.
