[The Epoch Times, November 09, 2023](Epoch Times reporter Li Fanzhen compiled and reported in Melbourne) According to the “Herald Sun” report, Victoria Minister of Health Thomas (Mary-Anne Thomas) warned Victorian residents to be wary of deadly coronaviruses this summer. of mosquito-borne viruses. The state government is calling on Victorians in high-risk communities to get vaccinated against Japanese encephalitis ahead of summer.

Thomas warned during a speech at La Trobe University that Victorians should be wary of Japanese encephalitis, a disease spread by mosquito bites this summer, especially around water sources.

Summer is the peak breeding season for mosquitoes. Although most people infected with Japanese encephalitis have no symptoms, in some cases the virus can cause severe illness or even death. Other epidemic diseases to be wary of include Murray Valley encephalitis, Ross River virus, Barmah Forest virus and West Nile virus.

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Claire Looker said mosquito numbers had increased and the diseases they carried had changed. There have been 14 cases of Japanese encephalitis recorded in the past 12 months, a rise compared to recent years.

“(Japanese encephalitis) can present with very common symptoms such as fever, muscle aches and pain, but in some rare cases can develop into a more severe neurological disease,” she said.

Luke urged Victorians living in high-risk areas to get vaccinated as soon as possible, with vaccines available from GPs, Aboriginal Community Control Organizations, community pharmacies and local councils.

High risk areas include: Benalla, Campaspe, Greater Bendigo, Hindmarsh, Indigo, Mildura , Northern Grampians, Swan Hill, Wangaratta and Wodonga, etc.
