In the trailer for the multi-part documentary, Meghan said: “When the stakes are high, wouldn’t it make sense to hear the story from us?”

The broadcast comes as members of the British royal family face a new conflict over racism. Since Harry and Meghan gave up their royal duties two years ago and moved to California, the couple made harsh criticisms of the British monarchy, including allegations of racism, which led to disagreements with the rest of the family, specifically with Harry’s father, King Charles, and his older brother, Prince William.

And the last time Harry and Meghan revealed the nature of their relationship with other royals in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021 plunged the institution into its biggest crisis in recent times. Members of the British royal family fear devastating new discoveries.

And there’s almost no better timing for Netflix to air the trailer and documentary because Prince William and his wife Kate are currently in Boston, and Buckingham Palace is facing a racism issue regarding William’s godmother.

The prince’s 83-year-old godmother has resigned from her honorary role in the royal family, following repeatedly asking a black woman named Ngozi Fulani at a high-profile event at Buckingham Palace, “Where do you come from in Africa?”

Fulani, who was born in Britain and works for a domestic violence group, described the question as “abuse”. Both Buckingham Palace and William were quick to condemn the incident, and a spokesman for the prince said, “Racism has no place in our society.”

“No one sees what happens behind closed doors,” Harry says in the trailer, and in a later clip he appears saying, “I had to do everything I might to protect my family.”

Although no official date has been set for the release of the six-part documentary, media reported that it will be broadcast on December 8th.
