Vice President Kamaleyan-Schmied is calling for an improvement in the availability of important medications and the provision of emergency medications in ordinations in the future

Vienna (OTS) – According to reports, contrary to the Health Minister’s promise, there are currently still shortages of the important drug Paxlovid in many Viennese pharmacies, which primarily protects people at risk from severe courses of a corona infection.

“During the holidays and around the turn of the year, the Viennese doctors in the offices and on the medical radio service are doing a great job in the wake of this enormous wave of illness and are ensuring primary medical care in the city. In order to provide patients with the best possible care, there must also be sufficient emergency medication such as Paxlovid in stock. It was predictable that the Corona numbers would remain high and sufficient contingents and reserves would be needed. According to the Health Minister’s promises, the existing bottleneck in many pharmacies is completely incomprehensible and unacceptable,” says Naghme Kamaleyan-Schmied, Vice President and Chairwoman of the Curia of Resident Doctors at the Vienna Medical Association.

The Vienna Medical Association is calling for a rapid improvement in the availability of important medications: “The availability of medications, such as antibiotics, lung sprays and medications for children, must finally be ensured in the long term. It would also make sense for doctors to give emergency medication such as Paxlovid directly to patients in the office in the future to save them additional trips,” Kamaleyan-Schmied appeals to the Health Minister.
