Vienna tourism app “ivie” close to one million downloads mark

Vienna (OTS) – Launched in the pandemic year of 2020, the Vienna Tourist Board’s City Guide app is enjoying great popularity: with 900,000 downloads, it has now broken its next record.

“ivie” now includes 19 curated walks and tours – called “Walks” and “Guides”. They help you explore the city on foot and are therefore ecologically sustainable. The “Ring Street Walk”, a circular route with 14 stations along one of the most beautiful boulevards in the world, was the most popular in 2023. The “Schönbrunn Walk” and the “Sisi Guide” complete this year’s top three city tours in the app. The “ivie” World Exhibition Challenge, a competition to mark the anniversary year of “150 Years of the Vienna World Exhibition”, was also very popular with 13,000 participants. The top three search terms were the Hotel Imperial, the Wurstelprater and the K. and K. Hofzuckerbäcker Gerstner.

“Vienna’s destination app ‘ivie’ contains classics as well as insider tips for visitors to Vienna, but as an entertaining companion it also enriches the exploration of their own city for Viennese people. ‘ivie’ was named the best app shortly after its launch “Austria’s award-winning app and has now been downloaded 900,000 times: the Vienna Tourist Board app is one of the best digital offers to experience the most livable city in the world in all its facets,” says City Councilor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke.

“The ‘ivie’ World’s Fair Challenge was a successful pilot project with which we were able to bring part of our audience to a variety of locations in the city. We use technological possibilities to communicate and showcase the city’s wide range of offerings. New competitions in combination with thematic focuses are being planned – Vienna’s annual theme for 2024, which under the motto ‘Heartbeat Streets’ invites you to explore Vienna’s neighborhoods outside the ring and belt, plays a central role in this,” emphasizes Tourism Director Norbert Kettner.

The new “ivie” spot from WienTourismus highlights the strengths of the City Guide app in a humorous way. The focus is on nine-year-old Rada, who amazes those around her with her knowledge of Vienna’s sights and museums. New “ivie” functions such as the display of personalized content will be introduced in this way, as will extensive new gastronomy content. In short: With “ivie”, Vienna’s visitors and residents become Vienna experts and ambassadors for the city.
