Left-wing radicals during one of the demonstrations on Saturday, June 3, clashed with police officers in Leipzig, Germany. According to the DPA agency, law enforcement officers regard the incident as “mass riots.”
The demonstrators threw stones and bottles at law enforcement officers. According to photos and videos that appeared on the Web, left-wing radicals burned garbage cans, set off pyrotechnics and blocked the streets. About 1.5 thousand people took part in the demonstration.
Law enforcement officials said that “legal measures” were applied to 300 people.
There were riots in Leipzig on Saturday night as well. 23 police officers were injured, 17 service cars were damaged, the damage is estimated at a “five-figure sum”.
Left-wing radicals planned to hold a major protest on Saturday because of the verdict handed down on May 31 by one of their associates. However, the court banned the demonstration.
