The local police in Brussels-North (Schaerbeek/Evere/Sint-Joost-ten-Node) caught a man in the act of committing a violent robbery on Saturday 29 July. The victim is unharmed but in shock. This was reported by the Brussels prosecutor’s office on Tuesday.

A Brussels-North police brigade was on patrol on Saturday when it noticed two people arguing in the Rivierstraat. One of them asks the other for money, but the latter refuses and tries to leave the place. The first man set off in pursuit of the second, and the police decided to follow the two individuals for fear that the confrontation would turn into a burglary.

A little further on, in rue Gineste, the first man once more accosted the second. Officers then intervened and arrested the suspect. The victim was in shock, but was not injured.

The suspect was placed at the disposal of the prosecutor’s office, which brought him before the investigating judge for the offenses of attempted extortion with exhibition of arms.
