Virender Sehwag’s calling MS Dhoni a saint cost him dearly

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag called MS Dhoni a “senior” amid discussions about his catch during Chennai Super Kings’ second home game of IPL 2024 against Gujarat Titans.

The 45-year-old former opener while speaking on CricketBuzz praised the outstanding fielding effort by CSK but made a playful comment about the former CSK captain calling Dhoni a ‘soorji’ (elderly).

“Catches win matches,” Sehwag said.

“Ajinkya Rahane took a good catch and the elder MS Dhoni also took a catch.”

MS Dhoni can be considered as the face of Chennai Super Kings who along with Mumbai Indians led the franchise to win the IPL trophy a record five times.

Dhoni continues to feature in the 2024 edition of the cash-rich league even though the captaincy has been handed over to Maharashtra batsman Rituraj Gaikwad.

The Ranchi native is yet to bat in the 17th edition. However, his performance as a wicketkeeper in the clash against Gujarat Titans caught the attention.

Especially on the third ball of the 8th over in Gujarat’s innings, the wicketkeeper dismissed Vijay Shankar with a full stretch catch off Daryl Mitchell at a distance of 2.27 meters.
