A video that shows how a sculpture of the Virgin of Mercy falls, just beginning the procession in his honor in Argentina, has gone viral. The image was on a platform carried by a group of men when it suddenly fell to the ground where it shattered due to the impact.
Last Saturday, September 24, one of the most important religious events in the city of San Justo in Argentina took place. At the beginning of the procession of the Virgen de la Merced, the image fell to the ground breaking into pieces, a situation that several pointed out as a “divine sign”.
“Oh, God!”, the laments are heard in the video that went viral. In these images you can see the moment in which the four faithful who carry her go down the steps of the church, in the direction of Calle Independencia, and the Virgen de la Merced in San Justo, with her son in her arms on tulle and white flowers , falls headfirst and shatters.
“None of that,” responded the bishop of Santa Fe, Sergio Fenoy, when asked about a possible “divine sign”. “Just a fatality,” she warned. “It is the first time in history that something like this has happened to us”recognized from the parish.
According to local media, the figure fell because it was not tied to the platformas in other editions.
The ecclesiastical authorities decided to carry out the same procession, despite the accident with the Virgin, but instead of the sculpture a cross was used.
What happened to the sculpture?
“It was not possible to restore it. It is a ceramic image, about twenty years old, which is always in a hermitage next to the secretary’s office and is paraded in procession during the patron saint’s and local festivals. Probably it wasn’t fastened properly.“, he told La Capital the church secretary, Juan Alarconreferring to the fact that the image may not have been sufficiently fixed to the wooden platform where the sculpture is carried on a litter.
The sculpture that was broken this Saturday is not the historical one with natural hair that is on the altar. That one is 117 years old and was donated by Mercedes Zavalla de Iriondo, founding family and devotee of this virgin.
