Vivo X Fold: the smartphone is revealed just before its presentation

Vivo is expected to introduce its first foldable smartphone today, the Vivo X Fold. But the device will not have much mystery since several official images have just leaked on the web just before the announcement.

Vivo will in turn enter the foldable smartphone market with the Vivo X Fold. The manufacturer will join Samsung, Huawei, Honor, OPPO, Xiaomi and Motorola who have already launched one or more foldable devices on the market since 2019.

The Chinese manufacturer wants to seize its chance and try to impose itself on this new market in strong growth and largely dominated by Samsung. He should present today the Vivo X Foldits first high-end foldable smartphone, hoping to compete with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 from Samsung or the OPPO Find N. And just before the announcement, the device is revealed on the web, showing its design and some of its characteristics.

A powerful technical sheet

Hands-on images of the Vivo X Fold surfaced on the web over the weekend thanks to tipster Mukul Sharma. The latter fully reveal the design of the device, including the imposing rear photo module which includes 4 sensors. It would be a 50 megapixel main lens, a 48 megapixel ultra wide-angle lens, a 12 megapixel lens (probably a telephoto lens) as well as a periscope zoom.

The Vivo X Fold would sport a large internal 8-inch folding OLED display who would embed the technology LTPO 3.0 (polycrystalline oxide at low temperature), which will adapt the refresh rate of the screen according to use. We can expect improvements compared to the LTPO 2.0, in particular on the speed of the adaptation of the refresh which will go up to 120 Hz. We will therefore have a screen which will compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 or the Magic V of Honor.

Inside the device, we would find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor as well as a 4600 mAh battery compatible with 66W fast charging. We would also support 50W wireless charging.

A sturdy hinge

It is therefore to be expected that Vivo will emphasize the quality of the photo sensors and the screen of its foldable smartphone. But the manufacturer should also insist on the robustness of the hinge of the Vivo X Fold.

Indeed, Vivo would have worked a lot on the hinge of its first foldable smartphone, which is often the most criticized element on a foldable device. But with the Vivo X Fold, the Chinese manufacturer claims that the hinge withstands more than 300,000 foldings and unfoldingswhich promises good durability of the device at the hardware level.

The smartphone should be official this Monday April 11, Vivo having to present it in China today during a dedicated conference. According to the latest rumors, the device will cost 11,999 yuan, or around 1730 euro. It remains to be seen if the smartphone will be launched internationally or if it will remain available only in China.
