Vivo X90 Pro Plus preview

Among the variety of smartphones that enter the market every year, there are such pearls that surprise with their fatality. For example, such were iPhone smartphones of the first and fourth generations, Samsung Galaxy of all generations, Sony Xperia up to the third generation, the first Asus Zenfone, and even a separate material by Konstantin Ivanov was released on this topic, with which I recommend familiarize. What unites them? The answer is very simple and consists of just a few prerequisites – it is the most advanced technology wrapped in an attractive case made from quality materials. This killer combination forced and still makes people take a rash step and spend money set aside on really important things, such as utility bills, new tires for a car, take out loans, save on caviar, and so on to buy a new miracle of technology. Against this background, the new brainchild of the Chinese company Vivo looks like a candidate to become an iconic smartphone of early 2023, especially since the X90 Pro Plus can already be bought in Hong Kong for about 70,000 rubles in local dollars. So let’s get started.

Specifications

The younger versions of the Vivo X90 series are shown for comparison. Obviously, if the company deprives the more “simple” flagship smartphones of the latest technical achievements, it immediately compensates for them. As a vivid example, an increase in battery capacity and an increase in their charging speed in exchange for a periscope camera that is not in demand by everyone (provides an impeccable optical zoom). This commands respect.

Registration

This is a separate topic that deserves attention.

From the front side, almost all smartphones are the same, only the screen is in front of the eyes. The back panel in our time is the only place where the designer can win back. And here everything is fine, direct associations are evoked with a bottle of elite eau de toilette, long-aged cognac in a box or a package of expensive cigars. You just want to pull on the “ribbon” in the upper part of the case to inhale the aroma of Cuba. Copy B-brands can only dress a smartphone in a dress with an open back, figuratively speaking, it is difficult to do something more alluring for a potential client who is able to buy a smartphone for 70,000 rubles. The texture under the skin (plastic) in the red and black versions only enhances the effect of high cost, and the smooth “blue” (preliminary data) seems to be thrown as a spit in the direction of people who have no taste. But this, of course, is a matter of taste, write if you disagree.

Screen

This is perhaps another highlight of the Vivo X90 Pro Plus, as it uses the best AMOLED panel to date, called the Samsung E6. Its distinctive features are solutions for the extermination of old sores, here PWM that does not kill the user’s eyes, flickering from 1440 to 2160 Hz, and other modern achievements – brightness up to 1800 nits, adaptive refresh rate controlled by LPTO 4.0, and so on. The difference with the AMOLED panel from Samsung, installed in the flagship smartphones that were bought 3-4 years ago, the user should notice with the naked eye, especially in dim conditions.

cameras

I think that no one will pull up if I say that the Vivo X90 Pro Plus has the best set of cameras to date. But the main highlight, perhaps, is the same 1-inch IMX989 module from Sony. I don’t know about others, but I’m on it noticed six months ago, before the release of the “first carrier” in the face of Xiaomi 12s Ultra. Later review only confirmed the importance of getting the maximum amount of light into the lens and the inefficient method of software image enhancement at this stage. So, six months later, we again have a smartphone with such a camera, but this time Vivo programmers had a hand in optimizing the resulting image, hiding their work under the Carl Zeiss fashion nameplate. Performance and Memory

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is an improved version of the first generation, surpassing it by 10-30% in all characteristics. He is less hot, less voracious, etc. Although the MediaTek Dimensity 9200, installed in simpler versions of the Vivo X90 series, is not much inferior to it, the difference in all tests is from 0.5 to 1%, which is within the statistical error and may indicate poor optimization of the tests themselves. There is nothing to say about memory, we recently discussed with you that LPDDR5X is too close to LPDDR5, and the type of main storage is the same for the entire X90 line.

How much does it cost and when will it be on sale?

At the time of writing, the Vivo X90 Pro Plus smartphone is only sold in China. Within the next month or two, it will appear on the European and Asian markets. Particularly cynical is the company’s decision not to sell this smartphone in North America. What is it? Fear of repeating the fate of Huawei? Or the consequences of the global turn to the East (with many pro-Western MPs expelled at the last Chinese Communist Party (CCP) congress)? Perhaps we will understand this year. Speaking about sales in Russia, information has not yet been found.

Conclusion

Why so much attention was paid to this particular smartphone? The answer is very simple – high technology cannot but fascinate. The really beautiful case of the Vivo X90 Pro Plus smartphone contains all the best that can be found at the moment. This is such a wonderful combination that it will win over any tech lover. And if you think that there are other smartphones capable of shooting night video in 4K resolution (albeit with a frequency of 30 fps) in this quality, then be sure to write about it.
