Vizhinjam Police Station was vandalized; More than 80 policemen were injured

Thiruvananthapuram: Vizhinjam police station was vandalized. The attack took place after a person was taken into custody in connection with the conflict that took place the previous day. The protesters vandalized the station building and police vehicles. More than 80 policemen were injured. The reason for the provocation was the arrest of a man in a case related to yesterday’s clash.

In view of the tense situation, more police have been deployed at the spot. Those who tried to film the conflict on mobile phones were also attacked. People are coming to Vizhinjam police station premises from more places.

A police officer sustained a head injury after being hit. The police are still inside the station. More police teams are reaching the spot from city and rural areas.

The police registered a case against the archbishop in the last day’s conflict in Vizhinjam. About fifty priests, including the assistant bishop, have also been included in the charge sheet. Latin Archdiocese Archbishop Dr. Thomas J. Neto was the first accused. It is said in the FIR that there was a conspiracy between the Archbishop and the priests.

The police have registered a total of ten cases, including voluntary ones. Nine cases were taken against those protesting against the port and one case against the People’s Strike Committee. 95 people including priests are on the charge sheet. A case has been filed against about a thousand known people. The case has been charged with attempted murder, conspiracy and criminal association. Bishop Neto was the first defendant in three of the nine cases against the anti-port strike committee.
