(CNN) Evgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Russian private military company Wagner, said by 18th that his fighters had advanced in the battlefield of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine. Several remaining buildings surrounding the theater are said to still be occupied by Ukrainian forces.

Wagner advanced more than 260 meters on Bahmut, according to a post on social media Telegram. His enemies put up a fierce fight, fighting across every corner of the city, but they actually control only a small portion of his realm.

Prigozhin added that encircling the remaining Ukrainian positions was currently not possible. He cited the recent withdrawal of Russian paratroopers as a reason.

He also pointed to Chief of the General Staff Gerasimov, stressing that “due to Gerasimov’s immediate withdrawal from the enemy today, we have not yet isolated Bakhmut, but we are moving forward.”

Mr. Prigozhin has repeatedly expressed differing views from the Russian Ministry of Defense on tactics and leadership in the war.
