Waiting times, parking: here’s what you need to know if you’re flying from Brussels Airport this summer

The weekend of July 1, 2 and 3 promises to be very busy at Brussels airport, it will be the first big departure weekend. The managing director, Arnaud Feist, was the guest of the Bel RTL morning show. At the microphone of Fabrice Grosfilley, he gave some useful information to travelers.

This weekend will be very busy at the airport, it’s the summer holidays that are starting. More than 70,000 travelers are expected every day in the infrastructures. According to the managing director, even if the crowds will be large, “we will not yet be at the level of 2019, we will be running at more or less 75% of the record activity we had at that time”.

The busiest day will be Friday, with 72,000 passengers announced and 39,000 in the direction of departures. Should we be worried about delays? “There will be a lot of people so that means there may be queues at times but I think everything will be organized. We will not have a chaotic situation as we have seen in other other airports”estimated Arnaud Feist who added that “all measures have been taken, we have hired a lot of staff for two, three months”.

Some tips

Travelers are recommended to come two hours in advance for a flight within the Schengen area, and 3 hours for a flight outside the Schengen area.

Passengers can get live information about waiting times at security checks via the BRUce digital chatbot on the Brussels Airport website, which has been completely updated.

From this weekend, the airport will also have more parking spaces. The extension of the P3 “Holiday” car park has been completed, which makes it possible to offer 2,000 additional spaces and bring the total number of parking spaces available at Brussels Airport to 13,000. This extension will be open to the public on Friday.

For the whole of the summer, 4 million passengers are expected to pass through the airport. In 2019, it welcomed 5.4 million travelers.
