Canadian professional ice hockey player Wade Macleod has died at the age of 38,his wife karly Macleod announced on Wednesday via Instagram. The athlete succumbed to cancer after a prolonged and heroic fight.
According to the proclamation, macleod passed away last Saturday, surrounded by his family and in the loving care of his wife.He had been battling a recurring brain tumor since 2013, undergoing his most recent surgery in November 2024 in an attempt to partially remove the growth.
A Career Spanning Multiple Leagues
Macleod’s professional career included stints in both North America and Europe. He notably played in Germany’s DEL 2 league, frist for the Starbulls Rosenheim in the 2015/16 season, where he achieved an impressive 61 points in 50 regular-season games, adding another 7 points in 8 playoff games. He later joined the Löwen Frankfurt in the 2017/18 season, registering 49 points in 49 regular-season games.
In 2018, Macleod signed with the Dresden Eislöwen, however, he was unfortunately unable to play a single game for the team due to the necessity of another operation related to his ongoing health challenges.
