The closet is full, the drawers no longer fit any towels and the compartment with the stockings is absolutely cluttered. The favorite shirt can no longer be found and the new belt has mysteriously disappeared. Do you know such situations? At the latest when you have bought new outfits for spring and they only find a small amount of space in your wardrobe, then it is time to take action.

  • The closet finally needs to be cleared out!

One thing is certain: after tidying up your closet, you will feel liberated and true feelings of happiness will overcome you. I speak from personal experience! I’m currently in spring cleanup mode. My wardrobe has been turned upside down again and again for the past few days. Every day I find things that I never knew I had ever owned, let alone worn.

Spring makes it easier

In spring it is particularly easy for me to let a breath of fresh air flow into my cupboards and numerous drawers. My cupboards are currently receiving a real freshening treatment. Some are like new, some are still being rearranged.

A few tips that I followed that made decluttering easier will definitely help you tackle the closet project this spring.

Tip #1 – Small steps make it easier to let go

At the beginning of your closet cleaning out project, don’t start with the largest area of your closet. It’s better to first have a drawer with the shawls and scarves. You suddenly find silk scarves that you had already forgotten about. Tie the newly discovered scarf around yourself using a special tying tip and the first feeling of happiness is guaranteed.

Tip #2 – Don’t do everything at once!

Take your time with your wardrobe project. Start with this when you are really motivated and want to feel new order. Start with the sweaters that can go into hibernation. Spring is approaching and we are looking forward to wearing our striped shirts again. Once you’ve sorted these tops, it’ll feel like a breath of fresh spring air.

Tip No. 3 – Planning helps for the new order

At the beginning of the new order, think about whether the blouses will really find their new home in their previous place. Maybe you’ve sorted things well and the blouses take up a lot less space than before. This often results in a new arrangement for the beautiful pieces. Above all, you should sort the blouses by color. This makes it easier for you to find them and you always have your favorites at hand.

Tip No. 4 – Less is more, even in the wardrobe

Minimalism – easier said than done. I was very brave and got rid of my beloved trouser suits, dresses, skirts, blouses and shirts. Every piece I asked: “When was the last time you showed me at my best?” If I had to think longer, I was rigorous and immediately put it in the disposal bag.

It helped me not to put the things I wanted to get rid of in a pile and then look at them again before throwing them away. The disposal bag was always close by and made it incredibly easy to let go. Difficult but helpful! So I wasn’t tempted to think again about whether I might wear it again at some point.

Tip #5 – Create an organization system in your closet

Boxes, foldable boxes, transparent drawers – there are so many ways to reorganize your closet with organization systems. My shirts are now neatly stacked in foldable boxes. It is much easier to remove the shirt from this box without everything being unsorted in the closet. There are an incredible number of systems that offer support. Take a look around.

Tip No. 6 – Be sure to separate winter and summer clothing

Will it snow again? Do I need the three down coats in the next few days? Do the snow boots have to be ready? Everything can move to winter quarters for winter clothing. Make sure you have a wardrobe in the basement or attic with appropriate seasonal clothing. And if winter comes again unexpectedly, it’s just a stone’s throw into the basement or attic to get a thick coat.

Tip #7 – Use the same hangers

A wardrobe appears untidy and unsorted if there are different hangers. Make sure that you don’t have more than two different materials hanging on hangers in the closet. The thin wire hangers that are usually available at the dry cleaners are only an emergency solution.

Liberation and relief

It’s done! You can treat yourself to something: a new scent, some flowers or those cute earrings you recently saw. Reward yourself for your performance.

Scent your wardrobe with your favorite scent or hang a few scent strips in the closet. Opening the newly organized and fragrant wardrobe always puts a smile on your face.

“Cleanliness is the virtue of the soul.”

(Johann Wolfgang von Goethe)

Every spring, order in the household and in our cupboards is a big issue. I would be very interested to know how you handle tidying up your closet.

  • Is there only clothing in your closet that you wear regularly?
  • What do you do with discarded clothing?
  • Hand on heart: When was your last wardrobe sale?

I’m really excited to see whether you have as much joy and motivation with the “cleaning out your closet” project as I have experienced in the last few weeks. A new order is like a new life!

Stay with me, see you soon!
sincerely
